Furosemide
INDICATIONS
Furosemide is used for its diuretic activity in almost species.
Treatment of pulmonary edema, hypercalcuric nephropathy, uremia, adjunctive therapy in hyperkalemia in dogs and cats.
Treatment of post-parturient udder edema in cattle, prevent or reduce epistaxis (exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage; EIPH) in racehorses.
METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
Intramuscular or intravenous administration
Dogs: 2.5 – 5 mg/ kg BW or 0.5 – 1 ml/ 10 kg BW (lower dose suggested for cats) once or twice daily at 6 – 8 hours intervals.
Cattle: 250 – 500 mg once or twice daily at 12 hours intervals equivalent to 10 ml/ individual once daily or 5 ml/ individual every 12 hours. Treatment does not to exceed 48 hours post-partum.
Horse: 250 – 500 mg or 5 – 10 ml/ individual once or twice daily at 6 – 8 hours intervals. Racehorses: 0.3 – 0.6 mg/ kg BW or 0.6 - 1.2 ml/ 100 kg BW, 60 – 90 minutes prior to race.
Withdrawal time:
Meat and milk: 48 hours
Contra-indication:
Do not use for hypersensitive animals to Furosemide.
Do not use for animals with anuria or impaired kidney function.
Do not use in horses intended for human consumption.
